Henry Copley BAKER, son of Henry BAKER (c. 1866-c. 1946) and Janet LUDBROOK (c. 1866-c. 1938), was born on 20 May 1897 in North Lopham, Norfolk. He was baptised on 26 September 1897 in North Lopham - living at King's Head Lane, b.20.05.1897, parents Henry (labourer) and Jeannette. Henry was attested into the military on 9 February 1916 at Norwich, Norfolk. On 19 February 1916 he put on the Army Reserve list. From 19 October 1916 to 23 December 1916 he served on home soil wih the 2nd Battalion Norfolk Regiment, Private 26877. From 24 December 1916 to 23 April 1917 he served in India. From 24 April 1917 to 21 February 1919 he served in Mesopotamia. He had a furlough in Basrah, India from 15.07.1918 to 10.10.1918. On 22 March 1919 he was on board ship for the UK, a trip lasting 7 days, returning to serve on home soil. He was demobilized on 27 April 1919 and placed on the Class “Z” Army Reserve. He died circa 1971 in North Lopham. He was buried on 12 February 1971 in North Lopham - aged 72 years; abode listed as Thorpe St. Andrew (maybe at the hospital).
